Seeking for Training
Clinicians!
Our department is looking for training clinician. Our department will provide a series of comprehensive training for training clinician, ranging from consultation of admitted patients to high-level techniques such as use of endoscope. We will give one-to-one instructions at the bed-side, including how to approach patients, aiming to train clinicians who can win trust of the patients. We also encourage clinical studies required for doctors and actively give advice on academic presentations, etc. Doctors in our department are working vigorously in such areas as local medical care within Nagasaki prefecture, education and instruction in other universities, international medical cooperation, etc. They have also presented marked results of studies in medical care.
Purpose
and principle of educationThe organization of our office was renewed in February, 1996 and is now under supervision of Professor Shigeru Kohno. It is proud of its active involvement in the areas of education, patient consultation and research. The principle of education to assist students to acquire knowledge on clinical medicine to help them come up with clinical outcome from the state of diseases, and to acquire sufficient academic resources. Its aim is also to foster humble and conscientious doctors. Staff1 professor, 2 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, 2 concurrent lecturers, 3 research associates, 1 professor from the Medical Junior Collage, 1 professor from the graduate school of the Faculty of Pharmacy, 1 associate professor each at the department of endoscopy and the department of kidney disease treatment, 1 assistant professor and 1 research associate at the department of clinical laboratory, 1 research associate at the department of endoscopy, 9 visiting lecturers, 79 research students, 15 post-graduate students, 36 residents and 2 foreign students. These members are engaged in education, research and consultation. 8 other people are currently studying abroad. Contents
of research, etc. There are four main groups of study and each group further divides into smaller groups. Respiratory organ group divides into smaller groups of respiratory infectious diseases, lung tumors, allergy and immunity. Digestive organ group divides into digestive intestine and liver groups. Two other groups are circulatory organ group and kidney group. ŰResearch content of each group Infectious diseases group of the respiratory organ group uses bronchial fiber for collection of phlegm which enables accurate and spontaneous determination of infecting bacteria in bronchial infectious diseases. It also uses bronchial and lung cell washing, or, DNA diagnosis such as PCR. Our themes of research are; serum diagnosis of profundus fungus diseases which are inveterate infections, treatment using drug delivery system and elucidation of the mechanism of sideration. Oncology group uses various types of cancer cell strains to separate anticancer drug tolerant genes, and conducts in vitro analysis of their tolerance. The group investigates sideration of the disease using various types of clinical experiments. They also conduct screening of drugs to overcome anticancer drug tolerance by using these tolerant cancer cell strains. The allergy group conducts research on the mechanism of sideration of bronchial asthma (especially type I allergy reactions and anaphylaxis of respiratory tract) and studies on morphological changes of chronic obturative lung diseases and link between functions of the lung and respiratory insufficiency. Immunology group conducts analysis of neutrophilic functions and cellular immunity in infected hosts and elucidation of pathology through analysis of cytokine and adhesion molecules, using fluid and tissue from bronchial lung cell catharsis in diffuse interstitial lung diseases and elucidation of mechanism of implantation of cancer by way of adhesive molecules. Clinically, the group conducts bronchial lung cell catharsis, biopsy of lung through bronchial system, diagnosis of diffuse lung diseases by thoracoscopic lung biopsy. The digestive organ group conducts researches in the field of digestive organ diseases such as; elucidation of cause and pathology of inflammatory gut diseases (ulcerative colitis, clonal disease), gastric mucosa disorder and carcinogenesis by Helicobacter pylori, and investigation from clinical side such as antibacterial therapy. In addition, the group is engaged in studies on causes and pathology of autoimmune liver diseases. The circulatory organ group has following themes; study on pulmonary circulation of chronic respiratory diseases (especially, elucidation of pathology of hypoxic pulmonary vasospasm and establishment of early closed diagnosis method of cor pulmonale, using doppler and RI); treatment of acute pulmonary thrombus embolism; and establishment of treatment method for pulmonary hypertension which occurs as complication to chronic pulmonary thrombus embolism. In clinical fields, our main theme is interventional cardiology (PTCA which includes New Device and PTMC) for ischemic heart diseases and valvular diseases. The kidney group conducts studies in the fields of causes and pathology of glomerulus nephritis (especially, lgA nephropathy) and nephrotic syndrome. We investigate involvement of cytokine, complement and adhesive molecules by using human kidney tissue and animal test models by way of methodologies of immunology and molecular biology. In addition to conventional pharmacotherapy, our treatment attempts to prevent development of renal failure, using various kinds of hemocatharsis. We conduct different types of hemocatharsis suitable for the pathology of acute and chronic renal failure as well as various kinds of renal complications. Additional information: In our department, we value harmonious relationship of staff. Every year, we hold welcome reception for new staff, attended by over 200 members of our alumni, end-of-the-year party, sea bathing accompanied by family members of the staff, Shoro-nagashi festival, etc. There are such other events as participation of our department to the baseball, basketball, volleyball competitions within the university and periodical baseball match with other departments in other universities.
