Summary:
Death investigation system in South Korea is based on the Continental Law and therefore investigation agencies including the public prosecution’s office make decision for the inspection and autopsy under the allowance of the judge. In South Korea, autopsy is performed in National Forensic Service (NFS) and some departments of legal medicine in medical colleges. But, most of cases are practiced in NFS. NFS is organized with the headquarter and five institutes in each region. 4 of these institutes use x-ray machine and Seoul Institute utilizes postmortem computed tomography (PMCT) in routine autopsy since 2013. Education and consultation associated with Forensic Radiology is made through the network program named “NFS Delta-view”. In addition, postmortem computed tomography angiography (PMCTA) is also utilized in routine autopsy as necessary. |
