Research
Medical pathogens elicit host immune responses that sometimes exert deleterious effects of their own. The Matsuyama lab studies the relationship between the host immune response and the pathogen, from the molecule to the individual level, by using cellular genetics and gene-targeting approaches. Our final goal is to contribute to future therapies by regulating the host response for patients suffering from various diseases.

I am searching for the bioactive substances that induce cell death in cooperation with TRAIL (TNF-related apoptosis inducing ligand), to develop new remedies for ATLL (adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma). I am excited to hunt treasures among a lot of candidate substances, though it requires much time and hard work. In addition, I am working on iPS (induced pluripotent stem cells) cells to obtain cell lines permitting virus replication recently.
