設置の背景

発達障害やうつ病患者の増大などメンタルヘルスの需要は増す一方であり、重大な医療・社会的問題になっております。需要の増加に伴い、初診までの待機時間も長くなり、医療資源までのアクセスも難しくなっている現実があります。さらに地域によっては医師不足による医療崩壊が進み、医療資源の不足は深刻な社会問題となっております。

最近の科学技術の進歩には目覚ましいものがあります。
精神障害の診断は、客観的評価の担保が難しいことが一因で、医師により診断が異なるという問題がありました。この問題を解決するために患者様の診療情報や行動から診断、治療方針の決定を行う人工知能の活用が考えられます。またヒト型ロボットの技術進歩にも目覚ましいものがあります。ロボットは予めプログラムすることで人間同様の動作を行うことが可能であり、人間と比較して常に同一の動作が可能な正確性があります。この利点を利用して、精神科診療のエキスパートの面談技術をロボットのプログラムに組み込むことで、その面談を別のロボットで再現できる可能性があります。
さらにこのロボットを患者様の面接や学生の教育に導入することで、全国各地で統一化した最先端の面接の提供、および面接法の教育が可能となります。またアヴァター技術の進歩にも目覚ましいものがあります。アヴァターを適切に用いることで遠隔医療の質の向上が期待されます。精神科医療には、病院、診療所、待合室、離島医療だけでなく、デイケア、訪問看護、グループホーム、作業所、学校、特別支援教育をはじめとした多様なフィールドでの展開が期待できます。このように人工知能、ロボット・アヴァター技術は医療資源の不足を補うだけでなく、高度で標準的な医療への貢献が期待されます。
また精神科だけでなく他の診療科においてもメンタルサポートを要する患者様は多数いらっしゃいます。各地域の多様な領域で、人工知能、ロボット・アヴァター技術を適切に用いることで、高度な医療を全国各地にもたらすことにつながり、地域における医療の格差是正の効果も期待できます。

一方で、従来先人たちが築き上げてきた伝統的精神科医療の功績が大きいことは申し上げるまでもございません。私たちは先人たちに敬意を忘れず、学びを続けていかねばならないと思っております。今回、新たに設置する未来メンタルヘルス学分野では、既存の伝統的精神科医療と人工知能やロボットといった最新の科学技術の共生について研究を進めてまいります。精神科医療の発展に寄与するとともに、増加する発達障害やうつ病患者のメンタルヘルスの需要にも対応できる次世代型の人材育成を目指してまいります。
